Introduction

Friends is an American comedy series which revolves around the lives of six friends in their twenties:

There's Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston, second from the left) a buyer for Ralph Lauren. When she left her groom at the altar and came to New York, she also left behind her "Daddy's Little Girl" life as well. She no longer had the support (and money) of her father and ended up firstly working as a waitress at Central Perk (the cafe where all the friends meet up), and then as a buyer for Bloomingdales.
She used to live with her best friend from High School, Monica, before moving in with Phoebe when Monica wanted to live with her boyfriend.
She is currently single and her previous relationships include Monica's older brother Ross.

Monica Geller (Courteney Cox Arquette, third from the right) works as a chef. She can only be described as a neat freak! Only she could have eleven categories for her hand towels! She also is very competitive especially with her older brother Ross. She has a love-hate relationship with her parents and finds it hard to cope with her mother's super critical attitude towards her.
She used to live with her best friend Rachel but now lives with her boyfriend, Chandler Bing.

Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow, first from the right) is an unemployed masseuse with what can only be described as a "different" outlook on life. To earn extra money she sings (rather badly) at Central Perk, and makes her own shoes.
Phoebe had a very tragic childhood - her Dad left when she was small, and when she was fourteen her Mother committed suicide. She lived on the streets for a while before moving in with Monica. However she moved into her own place after she was unable to tolerate Monica's tidiness any longer.
She recently located her half brother Frank and was a surrogate mother for him and his much older wife Alice.
She currently lives with Rachel.

Next we come to Joey (Matt LeBlanc, second from the right) a hunky, unemployed actor trying to make the big time. He comes across as not having much going on upstairs, but underneath I think he has a heart of gold and is very loyal to his friends.
Joey comes from a large Italian family. He has seven sisters although I think sometimes he looks on his best friend Chandler Bing as the brother he never had. He used to live with Chandler before he moved out to live with Monica.
His current roommate is played by Elle Macpherson.

Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry, first from the left) is the sensitive computer programmer with angsts about, well, most things in life. This stems back from his parents divorce due to his father announcing he was gay on Thanksgiving Day. He consequently hates this festival for obvious reasons.
He currently resides with Monica, his girlfriend across the landing from Joey. His previous relationships include Janice, the loud mouthed woman with THE most annoying laugh you could imagine. He always had a problem breaking up with her and even went to the great length of going to Yemen to get away from her!
As well as Joey his other best friend is Ross Geller who he went to college with.
Joey and himself are also the proud "parents" of a duck and a rooster.

And lastly Ross Geller (David Schwimmer, third from the left) the old fashioned, super sweet and super shy paleontologist,  who lives alone in the building opposite Joey, Monica and Chandler.
Ross, unfortunately, is able to say he has been married three times before he is thirty:
His first marriage ended when his wife Carol left him for another woman. His second wife Emily divorced him when he said his previous love's name (Rachel) at the wedding. And his third marriage to Rachel ended in divorce as they were extremely drunk when they the ceremony took place.
Ross also has a son from his first marriage to Carol.

Over the years these friends have laughed, cried and fought like mad with each other, but underneath they love each other to bits and, like friends, they are always there for each other no matter what.
